Student Talk
As part of our growth in students speaking with each other and using our questioning stems we did an activity today. The children used their play dough to build a turkey. We then used the stem:
"Tell me how you (designed and modeled your turkey)."
The children explained how they created their turkeys to each other. There was a great opportunity to introduce the question stem:
"What might happen if...?"
When a student explained that his turkey looked more like a pig than a turkey. I asked him What might happen if he got an opportunity to redesign his turkey? He got a big smile on his face and went back and tried again. This was a perfect opportunity to use our growth mindset statement:
"I can always improve. I'll keep trying."
Tomorrow during snack all children will have the opportunity to try to re-model their turkey. This was a fun activity that the children really enjoyed. Ask your child how he or she designed the turkey today and if they will change anything tomorrow.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
