Hungry Caterpillars...What do they Eat?, Baggie Book Homework

What do Painted Lady Caterpillars Eat???

Today in science we tried to feed our caterpillars some different foods. We found out that they will not eat anything except the media that is in the cup that they came in.  This is a special media mixture of the plants that they are able to eat: thistle, mallow, hollyhock and sunflower.  They only eat the leaves of the plants and this is a mixture that contains those leaves.

(for students with a purple baggie, yellow baggies will continue with their normal bags and will work on this with me in class)
Parents and guardians,
We are incorporating our reading (listening comprehension) skills into our non fiction reading.  In class I am reading one chapter to the children from the non fiction chapter book Schools Long Ago.  They are then drawing what they have learned.  I am checking for the component of reading COMPREHENSION.

I understand that the text may be too difficult for some of the children to read on their own (independently).  Your child’s baggie book homework is to explain to you what he or she learned.  If he or she can read it to you fantastic but the goal is to check for listening comprehension.

This is to prepare children for our upcoming fieldtrip to the 1 room school (Monday, May 15th).  I will send a permission slip and info home Friday.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Your partner in education,
Michelle
