This week we are studying adjectives in our writing. We are reading different stories to hear how the authors use adjectives to help "paint a picture". We have created an "anchor chart" that will stay in one place in our classroom for the whole year. The children can refer to this chart at any time if they need to add adjectives to any writing.

Reading
During the Daily 6 we are working on our vowel sounds We will continue to work on this throughout the school year. We are focusing on the closed vowel syllable. The vowel is closed between 2 consonants (which makes the vowel short). Please click on our vowel bulletin board to watch a video clip of a game we played during reading groups today. I noticed that there were many children that are not hearing the differences between a and e. We will continue to target the vowel sounds.

We will be singing this song throughout the year to remind us of the vowel sounds. I will be out of the classroom tomorrow to begin individual reading assessments with the students. I will begin to send nightly reading homework Monday.
Number Stories (aka "Word Problems")
Today we worked on using our classroom "treasure boxes" to act our number stories. Ask your child which treasure box he or she got to use in class today. We discussed that the unit (treasure) is the noun and we can use adjectives (numbers, colors) to add to our Number stories.
Please click on the treasure box to see a video of the children using the "treasure boxes" to practice verbally saying a Number Story.
Tomorrow is school picture day:)
If you have any items to donate for Goldilocks's bed (cardboard donations, items to help decorate or washers and pennies) please send in my Thursday. We will begin construction then.
