Math Assessment
Happy Friday! I wanted to let you know to please check through your child's "Piece of Gold" this weekend. Included in it is your child's first math assessment. It will have this letter stapled to the front. As a first grade staff, out main goal is for your student to be growing as a learner. The math program is a spiral and we will continue to reteach concepts throughout the year. So we may teach something in Unit 1 and come back to the same concept in a different way in unit 5. One of the biggest struggles for students is being able to write down their though process. We will continue to work on writing across all aspects of the curriculum.Baggie Book Homework- Begins Monday
Each evening Monday - Thursday your child will be bringing home a baggie book it may be purple or yellow. (See the photos below). Please have your child read the book to you. Please check the parent sheet. If you have a comment please write it down. I want to remind you that this should NOT be a stressful task for your child. The book will be familiar because we have worked on it in class. Your comments of how your child does on reading this book are very helpful in driving my instruction. If the book is too difficult or too easy I know I need to adjust the levels.
Writing- Angry Bird Verbs
Today the children worked on verbs again! We practiced using verbs to describe different activities the Angry Birds can do. We now have the Angry Birds flying around our classroom! Please ask your child what verb he or she chose.
Next week for word work the children will practice sorting different words into the categories noun, verb, and adjective.

We used this story this week to listen for the 3 parts of speech. The children loved the story. You can listen along by clicking the photo.
Enjoy the weekend. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Michelle
