Friendship, "Bucket Filling", Patriot Day and Math

This week for writing and social studies we are focusing on the theme of Friendship.  We will be reading many books about friendship and what makes a good friend.  We focused on sharing today.  Please click on the book to hear the story we shared today.

As part of our friendship theme we are beginning a get to know you activity.  3 children a day will be chosen to bring home a brown paper bag.  I am asking the students to choose 5 items (or photos) to place in the paper bag.  Please return it the next day.  This will help us learn about each other, build our class community and foster friendships. Here was my example I shared with the class today.

We are also learning about being a "Bucket Filler".  We read Have You Filled A Bucket Today.  Please click on the book to hear the story at home!
We tied into the idea of being a bucket filler by speaking about the service men and women and how they were helpers on Patriot Day (September 11th).  We spoke about how bucket dippers can want to do mean things but that bucket fillers are always there to help!

Click on the picture above to watch some children show different ways to fill buckets!

Today we have started out math program.  Please check your child's "Piece of Gold" take home folder for a parent note.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me!
