Story Elements with Roll a Christmas Story and Headbands

Roll a Story

Today we did a fun activity relating to what we have learned about the elements of a story.
Please click on the image below to see a short video.

The children worked on the plan and then orally told each other their stories during target time.  Your child will bring his or her story home today.  Please ask your child to share his or her story with you!

Headbands

We played a fun game that helps the children work on the questioning stem "What do we know so far?"  This is a fun family game for all ages!
Here are the directions:
Headband Game Directions
Prep: Print out holiday images and create a headband from stapled paper
1.  One child will place the headband on his or her head.  The adult will choose on of the pictures and slide it into the paperclip attached to the headband.
2.  The child then has to ask questions about the picture i.e. Is it alive? Is it an animal?  etc.  (This is really an updated version of 20 questions.)  The other children can only answer yes or no - that is it:)  The goal is to get the answer in 10 questions.
3. If the item has not been guessed in 7 questions then the child can ask for a hint. (Have the child answer What do I know so far? Before asking for a hint.)
4. After 10 questions the child removes the headband and looks at the picture.
5. The next child will get a turn and so on.
